Virendra Patel, 47, of Lake City. experienced a medical emergency and his Jeep Commander crashed Saturday at 9:25 p.m. Five other people in the Jeep were injured.
According to FHP Investigators, Mr. Patel a was driving west on U.S. 90 with his family when he apparently experienced some type of medical emergency which caused him to suddenly and without warning become incapacitated.
The Jeep swerved across both the westbound and eastbound lanes of U.S. 90 where it went into a fence along the south side of the roadway and overturned, coming to rest on its right side, East of S.W. Faith Drive.
He was transported to the Lake City Medical Center by Life-Guard EMS in critical condition where he was later pronounced as deceased.
Five other occupants of Patel's vehicle also sustained various injuries which also required transport to local hospitals. One of the occupants, Dipti Patel 50 Lake City, had been ejected from Patel's vehicle during the rollover and was later flown to Shands Trauma Center in Gainesville, where she was listed in serious condition. All other passengers were using seat belts.
